Ninoo Builder

Publishing

Publishing puts a copy of your app on the internet, at its own address. It stays online when your workspace is paused or closed.

Publish for the first time

  1. 01

    Press Publish

It's at the top of the Builder. Ninoo builds a production copy of your app and puts it online.
  2. 02

    Get the address

Your app is live at an address like your-app-1a2b.ninoo.app, made from the project name when it was created. Anyone with the link can open it.
  3. 03

    Share it

Open the Publish menu to copy the link or open the live app.
You can't publish an empty project: describe something and let Ninoo build it first.

Publish changes

The live app doesn't change while you work. When you're ready, open the Publish menu and press Publish latest changes. History marks each published version (“Published v3”), so you can tell what's live.

Apps with a backend

If your app has a Python backend, Publish puts it online too, under /api on the same address. The owner pays for it after a free monthly allowance.

Who can publish

  • The owner and editors can publish and publish changes.
  • Only the owner can take the site offline, and add or remove domains.
  • Viewers can open the live app like anyone else, but can't change it.

Take it offline

The owner can unpublish from More → Settings → Unpublish. The address stops working until you publish again. Your project, its history and its domains aren't affected.

The address

  • Every app keeps its ninoo.app address, so links you've shared keep working. You can see it under More → Settings, as “URL subdomain”.
  • Renaming the project doesn't change it.
  • You can also show the app at your own domain.

Use your own domain

Show your published app at a domain you own, like yourshop.com or www.yourshop.com. It's free, up to 2 domains per app, and the certificate for https is included. You need to own the domain already; Ninoo doesn't sell domains.

  1. 01

    Add it

Open More → Domains and type the domain. For a bare domain like yourshop.com you can add www.yourshop.com in the same step; it sends visitors on to yourshop.com.
  2. 02

    Add the DNS records

Ninoo shows the records to add where you manage the domain's DNS (often the company you bought it from): a CNAME to domains.ninoo.app for a name like www, or A records for a bare domain. There's also one TXT record, named _ninoo-challenge, with a code just for your app. It proves the domain is yours, so nobody else can connect it to their app. If your DNS provider offers one-click setup, a Connect automatically button adds all of them once you approve it there. Otherwise Domains shows step-by-step instructions for your DNS provider (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap, Squarespace, Route 53, Porkbun, IONOS, Hostinger, or general steps for any other), including any old records it sees that you need to delete.
  3. 03

    Wait for Live

Ninoo checks by itself. Once it sees the records it gets a certificate, which usually takes a few minutes, and the domain shows Live. The Publish menu then shows your domain as the app's address.

Before you change DNS

Delete any old A, AAAA or CNAME records with the same name, or some visitors may still reach the old site. Leave your email (MX) records alone; Ninoo doesn't need them changed.
  • The first domain you add is the primary: the one Publish shows. Any other domain sends visitors to it. Use Make primary to switch.
  • DNS changes usually show up within an hour, sometimes up to 48 hours. If the records still aren't found after 72 hours, the domain says what's wrong and offers Try again. A domain that never goes live is removed after 7 days; you can add it again.
  • If someone else's app already added your domain, add it to yours anyway and put in your TXT record: the app with the matching code gets the domain.
  • Removing a domain stops it showing your app right away. Your DNS records stay until you change them.
  • Only the project owner can add, remove or switch domains. Everyone on the project can see them.
  • On Cloudflare, set each record to DNS only (the grey cloud). With the proxy on, Ninoo can't reach the domain to get its certificate.
